Living on the Edge of Glam: Danger Danger’s Debut on BSCD2 (SICP 30670)

Today’s entry spotlights the 2014 Japanese reissue of Danger Danger’s self-titled debut album, originally released in 1989. This edition was issued by Sony Records Int’l with the catalog number SICP 30670 as part of the “Legacy Recordings” series celebrating the 30th anniversary of BURRN! magazine. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.

This release is a premium item for audiophiles, pressed on the high-fidelity Blu-spec CD2 format and featuring 2014 remastered sound.

Danger Danger’s debut is a quintessential slice of late-80s melodic hard rock. Often positioned as a “post-Bon Jovi” act, the band combined catchy, pop-infused songwriting with heavy metal aesthetics and a polished image. The album is packed with hook-laden anthems like “Naughty Naughty,” “Bang Bang,” and “Under The Gun.”

The musicianship is top-tier, featuring the smooth vocals of Ted Poley, the songwriting duo of Bruno Ravel (bass) and Steve West (drums), and the impressive guitar work of Andy Timmons (who would go on to become a guitar hero in his own right).

This Japanese edition is packed with extras. It includes three live bonus tracks (“Bang Bang,” “Naughty Naughty,” “Rock ‘N’ Roll Hoochie Koo”), extensive liner notes, lyrics, and even reproductions of the band members’ handwritten questionnaires from the era. SICP 30670 is the definitive version of a melodic rock classic, capturing the fun and energy of the hair metal sunset.
