Straight Out of the Pumpkin Patch: Helloween’s ‘Straight Out Of Hell’ (VICP-65100)
Today’s entry spotlights a refreshing return to form for German power metal legends Helloween. We are looking at the 2013 Japanese pressing of their fourteenth studio album, “Straight Out Of Hell,” released on the Victor label with the catalog number VICP-65100. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.
Released on January 16, 2013, this album marked a deliberate shift away from the darker, heavier tones of its predecessor, “7 Sinners.” Embracing a “happy and positive” philosophy (at the suggestion of producer Charlie Bauerfeind), the band delivered a collection of upbeat, melodic power metal anthems that recalled their classic sound while maintaining a modern edge.
The album is packed with highlights, from the intricate opener “Nabataea” and the high-speed “World Of War” to the catchy “Live Now!” and the powerful ballad “Hold Me In Your Arms.” A standout track for many fans is the Michael Weikath-penned “Burning Sun,” a quintessential Helloween speed metal anthem featuring Hammond organ touches. Another interesting moment is “Wanna Be God,” a rhythmic track dedicated to Freddie Mercury.
VICP-65100 captures a revitalized Helloween delivering exactly what fans love: soaring melodies, dual guitar harmonies, and positive energy. It stands as a highly regarded entry in their extensive discography, proving the pumpkin heads still knew how to have fun.
