Today’s entry spotlights the definitive career retrospective from the multinational masters of extreme power metal, DragonForce. We are looking at the 2016 Japanese pressing of “Killer Elite (The Hits – The Highs – The Vids),” released on the Victor label with the catalog number VIZP-145. This particular copy comes complete with its original obi strip.
Released in Japan on April 13, 2016 (ahead of the worldwide release), this deluxe 3-disc set (2 CDs + 1 DVD) served as the band’s first comprehensive “Best Of” compilation. It draws material from their first six studio albums—ranging from 2003’s Valley of the Damned to 2014’s Maximum Overload—as well as their live releases, spanning the tenures of both vocalists, ZP Theart and Marc Hudson.
The collection is meticulously organized to showcase the breadth of their “hypersonic” sound:
CD 1 (The Hits): Features their most commercially successful anthems, including the internet phenomenon “Through The Fire And Flames,” “Heroes Of Our Time,” and “Cry Thunder.”
CD 2 (The Highs): Focuses on fan favorites and epic tracks like “Valley Of The Damned,” “Fury Of The Storm,” and “My Spirit Will Go On.” Several early tracks are presented in their 2009 remastered forms.
DVD (The Vids): A visual collection of 8 music videos, capturing the band’s high-energy performance style and video game-inspired aesthetics.
Housed in a high-quality Digipak, VIZP-145 is the ultimate package for both newcomers and die-hard soldiers of the wasteland. It perfectly encapsulates the blistering speed, soaring melodies, and technical wizardry that made DragonForce a global metal sensation.
