Undercover Melodies: Last Autumn’s Dream’s ‘In Disguise’ (MICP-11326)

Today’s entry focuses on a unique release from the prolific Swedish melodic rock band Last Autumn’s Dream. We are looking at their 2016 album “In Disguise,” released in Japan on the Avalon label (Marquee Inc.) with the catalog number MICP-11326. This copy comes complete with its original obi strip.

Released on December 21, 2016, “In Disguise” is the band’s first-ever full covers album. While they had previously sprinkled covers into their studio albums, this 11-track collection is entirely dedicated to reinterpreting songs that influenced the band members.

The tracklist is a fascinating mix of well-known hits and deeper cuts from the rock and pop world. It features energetic versions of classics like “Working For The Weekend” (Loverboy), “Wig Wam Bam” (The Sweet), and “Jet Airliner” (Steve Miller Band). However, the band also digs deeper, covering artists like Streets (“If Love Should Go”), City Boy (“Need A Little Loving”), Angel (“I’ll Bring The Whole World To Your Door”), and even ABBA (“When I Kissed The Teacher”).

As is customary with Japanese releases, MICP-11326 offers an exclusive bonus for collectors: a cover of Fair Warning’s “Long Gone,” bringing the total to 12 tracks. This album showcases Last Autumn’s Dream putting their signature melodic hard rock stamp on a diverse range of songs, proving their versatility and deep appreciation for rock history.
