A New Guitar Hero Emerges: Evan K’s ‘Blue Lightning’ (KICP 1792)

Today’s entry spotlights the debut album from a rising talent in the world of shred guitar: “Blue Lightning” by Evan K. We are looking at the 2016 Japanese pressing, released on the Nexus label (King Records) with the catalog number KICP 1792. This particular copy comes complete with its original obi strip.

Hailing from Greece, much like his contemporary Gus G., Evan K burst onto the scene with this solo debut, positioning himself as a new guitar hero for the modern era. Drawing deep inspiration from legends like Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Jason Becker, and Marty Friedman, Evan demonstrates a command of both blistering speed and emotive melody.

“Blue Lightning” is a tour de force of technical power metal and instrumental rock. While Evan’s guitar work is the centerpiece, the album is elevated by high-profile guest appearances. Most notably, the legendary Italian vocalist Fabio Lione (Rhapsody of Fire, Angra) lends his powerful voice to the tracks “Edge Of The Sky” and “One Last Time,” adding a layer of symphonic metal grandeur. Keyboard duties are handled by Bob Katsionis (Firewind), further solidifying the album’s pedigree.

As is tradition with King Records releases, this Japanese edition offers exclusive value to collectors with the inclusion of two bonus tracks. One of these is a bold cover of Yngwie Malmsteen’s “Far Beyond The Sun,” a true test of skill for any neo-classical guitarist, along with an instrumental demo version of “Edge Of The Sky.”

KICP 1792 is an impressive opening statement, capturing a young virtuoso displaying potential that lives up to the “guitar hero” title. It is a must-listen for fans of high-velocity, melodic metal guitar.
