Casting a Spell on Japan: Daughtry’s ‘Break The Spell’ (SICP 3367)
Today’s entry spotlights the third studio album from the American rock powerhouse Daughtry. We are looking at the 2012 Japanese pressing of “Break The Spell,” released on the RCA label via Sony Music Japan International with the catalog number SICP 3367. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.
Released in Japan on January 18, 2012, this album arrived with Daughtry firmly established as a premier act in the American hard rock scene, following two consecutive number one albums. Frontman Chris Daughtry, celebrated for his powerful and emotive vocal delivery, leads the band through a polished collection of post-grunge and pop-rock anthems. Produced by Howard Benson, the sound is massive and radio-ready, drawing favorable comparisons to arena rock giants like Bon Jovi and Nickelback.
While the album features hard-hitting tracks like “Renegade” and “Outta My Head,” it also leans into the band’s strength for sweeping power ballads such as “Crawling Back To You” and “Start Of Something Good.” The songwriting is consistent and melodic, showcasing a band comfortable in their identity.
For collectors, this Japanese edition is the definitive version of the album. It offers a substantial tracklist of 17 songs. Beyond the standard album, it includes all four bonus tracks from the US Deluxe Edition (“Who’s They,” “Maybe We’re Already Gone,” “Everything But Me,” “Lullaby”). Crucially, it adds a fifth bonus track exclusive to the Japanese market: “Never Die.”
SICP 3367 is a comprehensive package for fans of modern American rock. It captures Daughtry maintaining their high standards of songwriting and performance, presented in a format that offers the most complete musical experience available.
