A Melodic Rock Affirmation: Last Autumn’s Dream’s ‘Yes’ (MICP-10965)

Today’s entry spotlights the eighth studio album from the consistent Swedish melodic hard rock band, Last Autumn’s Dream. We are looking at the 2010 Japanese pressing of “Yes,” released on the Avalon label (Marquee Inc.) with the catalog number MICP-10965. This copy comes complete with its original obi strip.

Released on December 15, 2010, this album arrived as a reassuring statement from the band following the tragic loss of their former bassist Marcel Jacob. “Yes” is celebrated by fans for returning to the group’s core dynamics. Notably, lead guitarist Andy Malecek handles all guitar duties here without the guest players utilized on previous outings, restoring the original musical chemistry between him and vocalist Mikael Erlandsson.

The album marks an interesting shift in songwriting dynamics, with drummer Jamie Borger contributing a significant number of tracks. This infusion results in a broader musical palette, balancing Erlandsson’s signature melancholic lyricism on tracks like “The Sound Of A Heartbreak” and “Survivor” with Borger’s catchy, upbeat rockers like “I’ve Fallen Into You” and “To Be With You.”

The 13-track listing also displays the band’s AOR roots through tasteful covers, including Michael Bolton’s “Fool’s Game” and Moon Over Paris’ “Kissin’ Goodbye My Tears.”

MICP-10965 captures a band functioning as a tight, organic unit, delivering the high-quality, winter-friendly melodic rock that fans have come to expect. It stands as one of the strongest entries in their prolific discography.
