Dawn of a New Era: Unisonic’s ‘Light Of Dawn’ (MICP-11170)

Today’s entry spotlights the second studio album from the German power metal supergroup Unisonic. We are looking at the 2014 Japanese pressing of “Light Of Dawn,” released on the Avalon label (Marquee Inc.) with the catalog number MICP-11170. This particular copy comes complete with its original obi strip.

Released on July 23, 2014, this album continued the historic reunion of former Helloween legends Michael Kiske (vocals) and Kai Hansen (guitar), backed by an elite lineup including Mandy Meyer (Asia, Gotthard), Dennis Ward, and Kosta Zafiriou (both of Pink Cream 69).

While their self-titled debut leaned towards a hard rock and “hard pop” sound, “Light Of Dawn” saw the band shifting gears toward a heavier, faster, and more dramatic European power metal style. Fans and critics alike praised this album for delivering the classic speed and melody vibe that many had been waiting for since the duo’s Helloween days.

The album opens with the intro “Venite 2.0” launching immediately into the high-speed melodic anthem “Your Time Has Come,” setting a powerful tone. The record is packed with highlights, including the soaring “Exceptional,” the driving “For The Kingdom,” and the lyrical “Night Of The Long Knives.” Kiske’s vocals are described as being in top form, retaining the range and power of his youth, while the dual guitar work of Hansen and Meyer provides thrilling solos and riffs.

For collectors, this Japanese edition is the definitive version. It includes the exclusive bonus track “Dare,” an upbeat song that complements the main tracklist perfectly. MICP-11170 is a high-quality release that captures a supergroup fully realizing their potential and delivering a masterclass in melodic heavy metal.
