Bang Your Head: Quiet Riot’s ‘Metal Health’ on Blu-spec CD2 (SICP 30397)

Today’s entry bangs its head to a true milestone in heavy metal history: Quiet Riot’s 1983 breakthrough, “Metal Health.” We are looking at the 2013 Japanese reissue, released as part of the “Legacy Recordings” series on the Epic label with the catalog number SICP 30397. This copy includes the original obi strip.

Released on October 9, 2013, this edition celebrates the album that famously became the first heavy metal record to ever reach Number 1 on the US Billboard charts, effectively kicking open the doors for the LA Metal boom of the 80s. After releasing two albums exclusively in Japan and disbanding, this album marked the band’s triumphant revival.

Musically, it is a powerhouse of arena rock. Anchored by the late Kevin DuBrow’s gritty vocals, it features the massive hit cover of Slade’s “Cum On Feel The Noize,” the headbanging title track, and the poignant ballad “Thunderbird,” dedicated to original member Randy Rhoads who had tragically passed away the previous year.

For collectors and audiophiles, this pressing is significant because it utilizes the Blu-spec CD2 format. Based on the 2001 digital remaster, this high-fidelity format uses Blu-ray manufacturing technology to ensure superior audio quality while remaining playable on standard CD players. Additionally, this version includes two bonus tracks: “Danger Zone” and a live version of “Slick Black Cadillac.”

SICP 30397 is the definitive high-quality version of a monster album that defined an era, packaged with the premium specs expected from a Japanese release.
