Celebrating 50 Years of Sting: Scorpions’ ‘Return To Forever’ Deluxe Japan Edition (SICP 30719)

Today we look at a massive release from the German hard rock legends, Scorpions. This entry focuses on the 2015 Japanese Deluxe Edition of their 18th studio album, “Return To Forever,” released on the RCA label with the catalog number SICP 30719.

Released on March 4, 2015, to coincide with the band’s 50th anniversary, this album is a unique project. It features a collection of songs that were originally conceived during their golden era in the 80s (around the sessions for “Blackout,” “Love at First Sting,” etc.) but were never finished, alongside brand new compositions. The result is a record that feels undeniably classic, capturing the essence of their peak sound.

This specific Japanese edition is a treat for audiophiles and collectors. It is pressed on the high-fidelity Blu-spec CD2 format, which is playable on standard CD players but utilizes manufacturing processes designed to improve audio quality. The packaging is a luxurious hardback Digibook, complete with a 24-page color booklet and an additional black-and-white booklet featuring Japanese liner notes and lyrics.

The tracklist is extensive. While the standard album features 12 songs, this deluxe edition includes four general bonus tracks (“The World We Used To Know,” “Dancing With The Moonlight,” “When The Truth Is A Lie,” “Who We Are”). Crucially for collectors, it also includes two exclusive bonus tracks found only on the Japanese release: “One And One Is Three” and “Crazy Ride,” bringing the total to 18 tracks.

SICP 30719 is the definitive version of this celebratory album. With its superior audio format, premium packaging, and exclusive songs, it stands as a fitting tribute to five decades of Scorpions rock.
