A Meeting of Rock Giants: The Mob’s Self-Titled Album (KICP 1121)

Today’s entry highlights a fascinating supergroup project from the mid-2000s hard rock scene. We are looking at the self-titled album by The Mob, released in Japan on King Records with the catalog number KICP 1121. This particular copy comes complete with its original obi strip.

Released in 2006, this project brought together a powerhouse lineup of musicians from some of the most respected bands in the genre. The band featured the soulful, gritty vocals of Doug Pinnick (King’s X), the guitar wizardry of Reb Beach (Winger, Whitesnake), the musicianship and production skills of Kip Winger (Winger) on bass, the driving drumming of Kelly Keagy (Night Ranger), and keyboards by Timothy Drury (Whitesnake, Eagles).

Produced by Kip Winger, the album is a seamless blend of the members’ respective histories. It combines the heavy grooves and soulful edge of King’s X with the melodic hard rock sensibilities of Winger and Night Ranger. The result is a high-quality collection of songs that feels cohesive rather than just a jam session.

The tracklist features strong numbers like “One Track Mind,” “Wait,” and “Turn To Stone.” Notably, drummer Kelly Keagy takes lead vocals on the track “The Magic.”

As is often the case, this Japanese pressing offers exclusive content for collectors. It includes a bonus 12th track, a remix of “The Magic,” adding extra value to this collaboration of rock veterans. KICP 1121 is a must-have for fans of any of the members’ main bands, showcasing a unique chemistry between these hard rock titans.
