Ascending to New Heights: Zeno’s ‘Runway To The Gods’ (TOCP-70059)
Today’s entry spotlights a masterpiece of melodic hard rock from the visionary Zeno Roth. We are looking at the 2006 studio album “Runway To The Gods,” released in Japan via Toshiba EMI with the catalog number TOCP-70059. This particular copy comes complete with its original obi strip.
Zeno Roth, the younger brother of guitar legend Uli Jon Roth, was known for his perfectionism and unique “philosophical” approach to rock music. “Runway To The Gods” is a testament to this dedication, having been painstakingly recorded and produced over a span of eight years (1998-2006) at his own Eternal Flame Studios.
On this album, Zeno handles almost all instrumentation himself, crafting a lush, multi-layered soundscape defined by soaring guitars and rich harmonies. The powerful lead vocals are provided by Michael Bormann (formerly of Jaded Heart), whose voice fits Zeno’s compositions perfectly.
The album features 11 tracks of uplifting, spiritual hard rock, including standouts like “Fanfares Of Love,” “Climb The Sky,” and the majestic title track. It also includes a beautiful instrumental adaptation of Mascagni’s “Sogno Di Angelo” and features Zeno himself on lead vocals for the track “Do You Feel The Time.”
TOCP-70059 is a must-have for fans of European melodic rock and AOR. It captures the late Zeno Roth’s artistic vision in its purest form, packaged with beautiful artwork by his long-time collaborator Ule W. Ritgen.
