A Melodic Rock Journey: Hess’s ‘Just Another Day’ (MICP-10356)
Today’s entry spotlights the solo work of a Canadian melodic rock icon: Harry Hess, best known as the frontman for the celebrated band Harem Scarem. We are looking at his 2003 solo album, “Just Another Day,” released in Japan on the Avalon label with the catalog number MICP-10356. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.
Issued on March 21, 2003, this CD allowed Hess to explore his musical influences outside of his main band. While Harem Scarem fans will find plenty to love in his distinctive vocal delivery and melodic sensibilities, “Just Another Day” leans heavily into polished Arena Rock and AOR (Adult Oriented Rock) territory.
The album features a collection of radio-friendly, hook-laden tracks such as “Look Right Through Me,” “Wasted Away,” and the title track. It showcases Hess’s talent not just as a singer, but as a songwriter capable of crafting memorable, emotional rock songs.
As is often the case with Japanese releases from the Avalon label, this edition is the definitive version for collectors. It includes an exclusive bonus track, “Up Hill Climb,” bringing the total tracklist to eleven songs. MICP-10356 is a must-have for completists of the Harem Scarem family tree, offering a high-quality slice of early 2000s melodic rock.
