A key 7-inch single from the early, formative years of Japanese heavy metal legends Loudness is the focus for this entry. We are looking at “Geraldine,” their second single, released on January 21, 1983.
This 45 RPM vinyl was issued on the B&M label (Nippon Columbia) with the catalog number AH-283-B. It captures the classic lineup during their raw, powerful ascent.
The single features two tracks:
A: Geraldine
B: In The Mirror
The A-side, “Geraldine,” is a notable cover song, originally by Boots Walker (written by Lou Zerato), performed here by Loudness with Japanese lyrics translated by vocalist Minoru Niihara.
The B-side, “In The Mirror,” is a vital piece of Loudness history. This original (music by Akira Takasaki, lyrics by Minoru Niihara) is one of the band’s most iconic and definitive high-speed heavy metal anthems. It was soon featured on their legendary third album, “The Law of Devil’s Land.”
AH-283-B stands as an essential early release for collectors, capturing the band’s classic sound with a unique cover song and one of their most celebrated original tracks.
