A key 7-inch single from the popular Japanese rock band ZIGGY is the focus for this entry. We are looking at their third single, “Sing My Song (I Just Want To Sing My Song),” released on November 25, 1988. This 45 RPM vinyl was issued on the Japan Record label with the catalog number 7JAS-110.
The single features two tracks, both written by vocalist Juichi Morishige (lyrics) and bassist Norio Toshiro (music):
A: Sing My Song (I Just Want To Sing My Song)
B: Midnight Tripper
This release was significant as it showcased the songwriting talents of the bassist, proving ZIGGY was not just a one-man band. These songs were intentionally written for a single release, not just as album cuts.
The title track is a popular, catchy pop song, which was used as an ending theme for the TV Asahi show “Party Co.Ltd.” This original single version is noted for being somewhat poppier than the later re-recording found on the “Nice & Easy” album. The B-side, “Midnight Tripper,” is also a high-quality, must-listen track, with fans noting its Rolling Stones-influenced intro/solo and funky bassline.
The original release also came with a postcard and sticker for a gift campaign, making it a great collector’s item from their classic era.
