Let’s go back to the very beginning of a legendary story with this entry. We are focusing on the debut 7-inch single from the band Lazy, “Hey! I Love You!,” released in 1977 on the RCA label with the catalog number RVS-1083.
This 45 RPM vinyl marks the first-ever release from the group that famously included future heavy metal legends Akira Takasaki and Munetaka Higuchi. This debut, however, captures the band in their full-fledged pop-idol phase.
The single was produced by Hiroshi “Monsieur” Kamayatsu and featured songs written by professional hitmakers:
A: Hey! I Love You! (Lyrics by Yukinojo Mori, Music by Koji Makaino)
B: Ok!
This release showcases the catchy, mainstream pop-rock sound that the label marketed for the young band, a stark contrast to the hard rock they aspired to play and the heavy metal they would later create with Loudness.
RVS-1083 stands as a fascinating and essential piece of Japanese rock history, documenting the pop-idol origins of two of Japan’s most important heavy metal musicians.
