A 7-inch single that holds an immortal place in Japanese rock history is the focus for this entry: “Radio Magic” by Earthshaker. Released in 1984 on the Nexus label (King Records) with the catalog number K07S-7050, this 45 RPM vinyl captures the band’s most iconic hit.
The single, taken from their classic third album “Midnight Flight,” features two tracks:
A: Radio Magic
B: Ushina wareta 7224 (Lost 7224)
The A-side, “Radio Magic,” is widely regarded as an all-time masterpiece of Japanese rock. It’s a “miracle song” where a sweet, sad, and incredibly catchy melody perfectly merged with the band’s tight performance.
The song transcended the heavy metal genre, offering a refreshing, clean sound that had massive mainstream appeal. It’s often cited as the perfected form of “Kayō Metal” (pop-metal), a style with a unique Japanese sensibility that played a crucial role in expanding the audience for J-Metal. “Radio Magic” remains one of Earthshaker’s most popular and enduring anthems.
