A unique and fascinating item for guitar enthusiasts is the focus today: the “Electric Guitar” flexi-disc (sonopress) by Kenji Kitajima. This release, cataloged in the database as s31397, was not a commercial single but a special supplement (特別付録) included with an issue of the Japanese magazine Bessatsu Guitar.
This 7-inch flexi-disc served as a showcase for Kitajima, one of Japan’s most respected rock guitarists, known for his work with Fence of Defense and as a support member for TM Network, in addition to his own solo career.
The flexi-disc’s content was tailored for guitar players:
The A-side likely featured Kitajima performing the track “Electric Guitar.” The B-side was titled “Rock Guitar Karaoke,” providing a backing track for aspiring guitarists to play along with, a common feature for such magazine supplements. This release stands as a rare snapshot of 80s guitar culture in Japan, offering fans a unique demonstration of Kitajima’s playing and a chance to interact with his music.
