Here is a spotlight on a crucial 7-inch single from the British hard rock band Girl, titled “Hollywood Tease.” Released in the UK in 1980 on Jet Records, this vinyl carries the catalog number JET 176.
This release is a fascinating piece of rock history, sitting right at the intersection of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) and glam rock. The band is famous for launching the careers of vocalist Phil Lewis (who would later front L.A. Guns) and guitarist Phil Collen (who would join Def Leppard).
The single features three tracks:
A: Hollywood Tease
B1: You Really Got Me
B2: My Number
The A-side, “Hollywood Tease,” is widely considered the band’s signature anthem. This version features a remix by the legendary producer Chris Tsangarides, giving it extra punch. The song was later re-recorded by L.A. Guns, proving its enduring appeal. The B-side features a high-energy cover of The Kinks’ classic “You Really Got Me,” along with the original track “My Number.”
JET 176 is a highly collectible item, particularly because this edition came packaged in a special fold-out poster sleeve. It captures the raw, sleazy energy of a band that bridged the gap between 70s glam and 80s metal.
