A Fiery Farewell: Lazy’s Final Concert ‘Moetsukita Seishun’ (RHL-3015-16)

Let’s explore a pivotal, poignant, and powerful live album documenting the end of an era: Lazy’s “Moetsukita Seishun” (Burned Out Youth). Released on April 5, 1981, via the RCA label, this 2LP set (catalog number RHL-3015-16) captures the band’s final concert before their initial dissolution. This copy includes the original obi strip.

This live album is a crucial historical document. It captures Lazy’s final, defiant transformation from a pop-idol group (a label they had long struggled against) into the full-fledged hard rock band they always wanted to be. Following their hard rock declaration on the “Earth Ark” album, this concert was their last stand.

The 2LP set showcases the band’s incredible, high-level musicianship, which was often overshadowed by their idol image. Listeners are treated to powerful live versions of tracks from “Earth Ark” (like “Dreamer,” “Earth Ark,” “Lonely Star”), alongside heavy, hard rock reinterpretations of their earlier, poppier idol-era songs, which many fans find thrilling. The album reportedly even includes the spoken-word dissolution announcement from the concert.

The atmosphere captured is one of immense tension and perhaps frustration, but it channels into a fierce, “demonic” performance. It beautifully documents the formidable talents of the members, particularly guitarist Akira Takasaki and drummer Munetaka Higuchi, just before they would form Loudness. It also showcases the skills of the other members, who would all go on to huge success (one as a major anime song vocalist, another as a record label president).

“Moetsukita Seishun” (RHL-3015-16) is a legendary, must-have album for fans of both Lazy and Loudness. It’s not just a live recording; it’s the sound of a band finally unleashed, a prelude to the heavy metal revolution they were about to start.
