Let’s focus on an ambitious and powerful album from Japanese hard rock pioneers Bow Wow, “Asian Volcano.” Released on April 21, 1982, via the Vap label, this 12-inch vinyl LP (catalog number 30027-28) represents the band’s eighth studio album and a significant step in their evolution. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.
Following their aggressive return to hard rock with “Hard Dog,” “Asian Volcano” saw the band further refining and powering up their sound. Heavily inspired by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement, this album is often considered a high-quality, “no filler” work, with songs seen as a step up in quality from its predecessor. It delivers a potent, “thick-boned” rock sound designed with international ambitions in mind.
Produced by the band, “Asian Volcano” delivers a collection of high-energy heavy metal tracks like “Rock And Roll Tonight,” “Get Out Of My Life,” “Devil Woman,” and “Touch Me I’m On Fire.” It showcases the band’s signature guitar works, powerful rhythm section, and shared vocal duties, all honed for a global audience. This album served as the launching pad for Bow Wow’s subsequent overseas activities, including their UK tour.
30027-28 stands as a key release, capturing Bow Wow’s world-class talent and ambition. The original release came complete with an obi, a fold-out lyrics insert, and a band poster, making it a desirable package for collectors.
