Back to the Beginning: Kodomo Band’s Debut ‘We Love Kodomo Band’ (C28A0122)
Today we revisit the explosive beginnings of the energetic Japanese rock ‘n’ roll outfit, Kodomo Band. This entry focuses on their debut studio album, officially titled “We Love Kodomo Band,” released in 1980 with the catalog number C28A0122.
Issued on Canyon Records, this 12-inch vinyl LP marked the powerful arrival of a band that prioritized raw energy and a live performance feel above all else. Led by the unmistakable vocals and driving guitar of Jikuya “Jiku” Ujirou, Kodomo Band presented a frantic, high-octane blend of rock ‘n’ roll, heavily infused with punk speed and attitude, along with elements of classic boogie rock.
Even though it was a studio recording, “We Love Kodomo Band” was intentionally produced to capture the sheer intensity the band was known for on stage. The result is a collection of songs bursting with adrenaline and youthful exuberance. The album is often informally referred to by its iconic opening track, “Hungry Boy,” which perfectly encapsulates their relentless style. Other tracks further showcase their signature sound – fast tempos, catchy riffs, and Jiku’s unique, rapid-fire vocal delivery.
C28A0122 is a landmark debut in Japanese rock history. It launched the long and influential career of Kodomo Band and stands as a pure, unadulterated blast of rock ‘n’ roll energy, capturing the band’s foundational sound and rebellious spirit.
