An interesting release from the mid-80s Japanese heavy metal underground is the debut mini-album from the band Dancer, titled “In The Beginning…”. Released in 1986 on the influential independent label Mandrake Root Records, this 6-track, 12-inch vinyl LP carries the catalog number 22MR-LP-007.
This release is particularly noteworthy for its lineup. The band was formed by guitarist Taiji Fujimoto (previously active with the band SEE THROUGH). Most significantly, it featured the powerful vocals of Tony Maeda Toshito, marking his return to the scene after his time as the original vocalist for the legendary heavy metal band ANTHEM.
The album delivers six tracks of pure, classic 80s heavy metal, including “Blue Fire,” “Death Cry,” “Through In The Night,” “Never Surrender,” “Frightning Sight,” and “Thunder And Lightning.” It showcases the band’s potent sound, Fujimoto’s guitar skills, and Tony’s commanding vocals, all captured with the raw energy of an independent release.
As a debut mini-album on a respected indie label featuring such a prominent vocalist, 22MR-LP-007 stands as an essential document of the 80s J-Metal scene and the ongoing careers of its key musicians.
