Let’s focus on the landmark debut album from the “super high-power optimistic rock band,” Kodomo Band. This is “We Love 子供ばんど” (We Love Kodomo Band), released on October 21, 1980, via the See・Saw label (Canyon Records) with the catalog number C28A0122.
This 12-inch vinyl LP served as the band’s powerful introduction, establishing their unique and infectious sound. Produced and arranged by the band itself, the album captures the driving, live feel that Kodomo Band prioritized. It’s filled from start to finish with fun, energetic rock ‘n’ roll, from the opener “のら猫” (Noraneko) to the closing “踊ろじゃないか” (Odoro Janai ka), and includes tracks like “サマータイム・ブルース” (Summertime Blues).
Unlike much of the Japanese rock that came before, “We Love Kodomo Band” is celebrated for its bright, nimble, and cheerful power. It’s a high-energy, feel-good album, perfectly described by fans as the kind of music you’d blast at full volume while driving in an open-top car in the summer.
C28A0122 is a spectacular debut, capturing the raw, live-wire energy and unique, optimistic rock ‘n’ roll spirit that would make Kodomo Band legends.
