A spotlight on the raw origins of Japanese thrash metal giants Outrage brings us to their very first release: the self-titled “Outrage” 12-inch EP. Issued on April 15, 1987, this EP bears the catalog number PD-001, representing the inaugural release on the band’s own independent label, Pile Driver Records.
This vinyl captures Outrage’s potent sound in its earliest, unadulterated form, predating their major label debut. It unleashes four tracks of pure, aggressive thrash and speed metal: “Under Control Of Law,” “Death Trap,” “Edge Of Death,” and “Step On It.” As a self-released debut, it perfectly encapsulates the raw energy, high-speed riffing, and intense power of the burgeoning Japanese thrash scene.
PD-001 is a significant historical document and a prized item for collectors. It was originally issued without an insert; however, a very small number of copies sold directly by the band at live shows in 1987 included a lyric insert, making those versions extremely rare. This EP marks the powerful, independent beginning of one of Japan’s most important thrash bands.
