Funk Metal Revamped: Love/Hate’s ‘Best Of Re-Cut’ (CLO 3142)
Today’s entry shines a spotlight on one of the most unique and underrated bands to emerge from the late 80s Sunset Strip scene. We are looking at the 2022 limited edition compilation Best Of Re-Cut by Love/Hate, released on Deadline Music with the catalog number CLO 3142.
A Fresh Look at Psychedelic Sleaze
Love/Hate always stood apart from their glam metal peers by injecting heavy doses of funk, psychedelia, and gritty realism into their sound. Released in November 2022, this compilation features re-recorded versions (“re-cuts”) of their classic material. These new takes allow the band to reclaim their biggest hits with a punchy, modern production style, engineered and mixed by none other than Gilby Clarke (ex-Guns N’ Roses) at Redrumm Studios.
The Music
The tracklist is a celebration of the band’s golden era, particularly their debut masterpiece Blackout in the Red Room and the follow-up Wasted in America. Side A features the eccentric groove of Yucca Man and the melodic She’s An Angel. Side B delivers the heavy hitters, including the title tracks Wasted In America and the iconic funk-metal anthem Blackout In The Red Room. The set also includes the drug-culture staple Why Do You Think They Call It Dope?, showcasing Jizzy Pearl’s distinctive vocal attack.
Collector’s Details
Deadline Music, a subsidiary of Cleopatra Records, packaged this release to appeal to collectors of colored vinyl.
Format:
This is a Limited Edition pressing on translucent Red Vinyl, paying homage to their debut album’s title.
Packaging:
New copies include a hype sticker on the shrink wrap detailing the colored vinyl and track selection.
Credits:
The album credits list the classic lineup—**Jizzy Pearl** (vocals), Jon E. Love (guitar), Skid Rose (bass), and Robbie Black (drums)—revisiting the songs that made them famous.
