Desaster’s Ultimate Legacy: ‘20 Years Of Total Desaster’ Box Set (KNEEL 026)
Today’s entry bows before a monumental release celebrating two decades of German black/thrash supremacy. We are examining the massive 2009 Die Hard box set 20 Years Of Total Desaster by Desaster, released on Kneel Before The Master’s Throne Records with the catalog number KNEEL 026.
A Monument to Black Thrash
Released in October 2009 to commemorate the band’s 20th anniversary, this box set is the definitive archive for the die-hard fan. It collects practically every rare non-album recording in the band’s history up to that point. The content spans from their raw early days to their polished modern sound, offering a complete historical document of one of Germany’s most consistent underground metal acts.
The Music
The tracklist is exhaustive, spread across four pieces of vinyl. It includes the cult 1993 demo The Fog Of Avalon and the 1994 demo Lost In The Ages, featuring unreleased bonus tracks. It also compiles tracks from their split EPs with Pentacle and Ungod, their various standalone EPs, and exclusive cuts from the earlier Ten Years of Total Desaster compilation. To top it off, the set features four brand new songs recorded specifically for this release in 2009, including Tormentor and Sataniac.
Collector’s Details
This release is famous among collectors for its lavish presentation and sheer volume of content.
Format
This is a 4-LP vinyl box set. The first three records are Picture Discs, showcasing classic artwork. The fourth LP is a special Single-Sided Red Vinyl containing the new 2009 tracks, featuring an etching on the blank side.
Limitation
This specific entry is the Die Hard edition, which was strictly limited to just 333 copies worldwide.
Packaging and Extras
The discs are housed in an oversized box. This Die Hard edition is packed with exclusive merchandise, including a two-sided black t-shirt with golden print, a patch, and three large 11″ × 17″ posters.
Documentation
To complete the history lesson, the box includes a standard 8-page LP-size booklet with liner notes and lyrics. However, the Die Hard edition also adds a massive 68-page A4-size magazine, providing an in-depth look at the band’s two-decade campaign of destruction.
