Iron Maiden Roots: Urchin’s ‘Get Up And Get Out’ (HRR 212)

Today’s entry explores the deep family tree of one of the world’s biggest metal bands. We are looking at the 2012 double-LP compilation Get Up And Get Out by Urchin, released on High Roller Records with the catalog number HRR 212.

The Iron Maiden Connection
Urchin is historically significant as the primary pre-Iron Maiden vehicle for guitarist Adrian Smith (who handles vocals and guitar here). It also features Maiden’s Dave Murray on guitar for the tracks “She’s A Roller” and “Long Time No Woman,” recorded during his brief tenure with the band in 1977. This compilation is an essential piece of history for Maiden archivists, documenting the formative years of two guitar legends.

The Music
While fans might expect heavy metal, Urchin’s sound is more rooted in melodic 70s hard rock and boogie, reminiscent of Status Quo or The Who, but with the developing dual-guitar harmonies that would later define the Maiden sound. Tracks like “Black Leather Fantasy” and “She’s A Roller” are catchy, radio-friendly rockers. The compilation gathers various singles, demos, and unreleased tracks, offering a comprehensive view of the band’s output.

Collector’s Details
High Roller Records presented this anthology as a deluxe 2xLP set to ensure high audio quality for the extensive tracklist. This specific entry is the White Vinyl edition, which was limited to just 250 copies. The packaging is unique, featuring a gatefold sleeve with glued fold-out inserts, adding to the premium feel of this archival release.
