Echoes from the Abyss: Sabbat’s ‘Sabbatrinity’ (I.P. 058)
Once again, we turn our attention to the enduring legacy of Japanese black/thrash metal masters, Sabbat, focusing on their 2011 release “Sabbatrinity,” issued by Iron Pegasus Records with the catalog identifier I.P. 058.
Distributed by the respected German underground label Iron Pegasus, “Sabbatrinity” was made available on both vinyl LP and compact disc, adding to the band’s already monumental discography. Sabbat, formed in the early 1980s, has consistently delivered their unique brand of extreme metal, often dubbed “Blacking Metal,” characterized by its raw energy, thrash-infused riffing, and Gezol’s unmistakable raspy vocals.
The title “Sabbatrinity” strongly implies thematic explorations of triads or trinities, a concept easily woven into the band’s established lyrical tapestry of Satanism, darkness, and occult folklore. Musically, the album offers exactly what fans expect and crave from Sabbat: aggressive, venomous metal that pays homage to the early days of black and thrash while maintaining its own distinct, primal identity.
Released deep into their career, “Sabbatrinity” demonstrates Sabbat’s relentless dedication to their craft and their unwavering position within the global underground metal scene. For collectors and enthusiasts of raw, authentic black/thrash, this Iron Pegasus release remains a significant entry in the band’s extensive and influential body of work.
