A fascinating album from ZIGGY’s 90s era is the focus for this entry: “Zoo & Ruby.” Released on July 21, 1993, this CD (catalog number TKCP-70092) was issued on the Public Image Records label. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.
This album represents a unique point in the band’s discography. It was created primarily by the core duo of vocalist Morishige Juichi and bassist Toshiki Tsunida, with the use of several guest musicians to fill out the sound rather than a fixed band lineup.
Musically, “Zoo & Ruby” showcases ZIGGY’s continued focus on strong, polished melodies within a hard rock framework. The 12 tracks, including “架空のサーカス” (Kakū no Circus), “砂の上のパラダイス” (Suna no Ue no Paradise), and “偽りの宮殿” (Itsuwari no Kyūden), are praised for their melodic quality. Fans have noted that the ballads, in particular, are of such high quality that they even draw comparisons to the epic work of X Japan.
TKCP-70092 captures a different, more project-oriented phase of ZIGGY, highlighting their exceptional songwriting and melodic sensibilities.
