A remastered classic, this entry focuses on the 2007 CD reissue of Earthshaker’s landmark second album, “Fugitive.” Released on March 7, 2007, via the Nexus label (catalog number KICS 2902), this CD was part of the “Nexus Masterpiece 1500” reissue series.
Originally released in 1984, “Fugitive” marked a huge step for the band, showcasing their rapid growth and being their first album recorded overseas, at the famed The Automatt studio in San Francisco. Produced by Masa Itoh and engineered by Ken Kessie (with synthesizer contributions from Mitchell Froom), the album boasts a distinct sound.
Fans often describe the production as dark and loud, but this heavy foundation perfectly contrasts with the band’s signature strengths: Masafumi “Marcy” Nishida’s clear, powerful vocals and the highly melodic, catchy songwriting. This blend of hard and melodious elements is the quintessential “Shaker style.”
The 8-track album is packed with essential classics, including the powerful opener “Kioku No Naka,” the epic ballad “Love Destiny,” the breakout hit and early signature song “More,” the fan-favorite “22:00,” and the driving title track “Fugitive.”
This remastered reissue (KICS 2902) offers a pristine way to experience a true masterpiece that captured Earthshaker’s rapid growth and solidified their legendary sound.
