A Farewell Sting: Scorpions’ ‘Sting In The Tail’ (SICP 2670)

Today’s entry spotlights a monumental album in the history of German hard rock legends, Scorpions. We are looking at the 2010 Japanese pressing of “Sting In The Tail,” released on the RCA label (Sony Music Japan International) with the catalog number SICP 2670. This copy comes complete with its original obi strip.

Released on April 21, 2010, this album was famously announced as the band’s final studio album before their retirement (a decision they would later reverse). Produced by the Swedish team of Mikael “Nord” Andersson and Martin Hansen, the album was widely celebrated as a return to the classic 80s Scorpions sound, blending melodic hard rock with driving energy.

The album is packed with highlights that capture the “tough” and “gentle” sides of the band. High-energy rockers like the opener “Raised On Rock” and “No Limit” showcase the driving riffs of Rudolf Schenker and the fluid solos of Matthias Jabs. These are balanced by the band’s signature power ballads, including the dramatic “The Good Die Young” (featuring guest vocals from Tarja Turunen), the melancholic “Lorelei,” and the deeply emotional “Sly” (a thematic sequel to their classic “Still Loving You”). Klaus Meine’s vocals are praised for their power and emotive quality throughout.

For collectors, this Japanese edition is the definitive version. It includes the exclusive bonus track “Thunder And Lightning,” bringing the total tracklist to 13 songs. It also features a fold-out Japanese booklet with liner notes, translated lyrics, and a band family tree. SICP 2670 stands as a high-quality document of a legendary band delivering a “final” masterpiece that perfectly summarized their career.
