Stepping into the smooth, formative years of Irish rock legends Thin Lizzy, we examine the 2013 Japanese reissue of their fourth studio album, Nightlife. Released on the Vertigo label (Universal Music) with the catalog number UICY-25377, this release is part of the “My Generation, My Music” series. This particular copy comes complete with its original obi strip.
Originally released in 1974, Nightlife is a milestone in the band’s history. It established the definitive twin-guitar lineup of Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson, a dynamic that would define their sound for years to come. Produced by Ron Nevison, the album offers a softer, more soulful, and bluesy approach compared to their later, harder-hitting anthems.
The album is perhaps best known for the stunning ballad Still In Love With You. This track features a legendary guest appearance by Gary Moore on guitar, foreshadowing his full membership in the band years later on the Black Rose album. Other tracks like the groovy She Knows and the driving Sha-La-La showcase the band’s growing sophistication and Phil Lynott’s poetic songwriting.
UICY-25377 is a fantastic way to experience this underrated classic. The high-fidelity SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) format brings out the warm, rich production, making it an essential addition for collectors of 70s hard rock.
Would you like me to find information on other Thin Lizzy SHM-CD reissues?
