Illuminating the Scene: Revolution Saints’ ‘Light In The Dark’ (KICP 1864)
Today’s entry spotlights the sophomore album from the melodic rock supergroup Revolution Saints. We are looking at the 2017 Japanese pressing of “Light In The Dark,” released on the Nexus label (King Records) with the catalog number KICP 1864. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.
Released on October 4, 2017, this album marked the return of the powerhouse trio comprising drummer/vocalist Deen Castronovo (Journey, Bad English), bassist/vocalist Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees), and guitarist Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio).
While their debut was largely shaped by producer Alessandro Del Vecchio, “Light In The Dark” saw the band members, particularly Aldrich and Castronovo, taking a more active role in the songwriting process. The result is a sound that feels more like a cohesive band effort—harder, edgier, and more guitar-oriented than its predecessor—while still retaining the soaring melodies and AOR sensibilities that fans of their main bands adore. Castronovo’s vocal performance is a particular highlight, often drawing favorable comparisons to the classic Journey sound.
The album features catchy, driving hard rock tracks alongside emotional ballads. A notable standout is their cover of “I Wouldn’t Change A Thing,” originally by Richard Page (Mr. Mister).
As is customary with King Records releases, this Japanese edition offers exclusive value to collectors. It includes the bonus track “Can’t Run Away From Love (Acoustic Version),” providing a stripped-down perspective on one of the album’s melodic highlights. KICP 1864 is an essential release for fans of 80s-style melodic hard rock, capturing three legends proving their chemistry is stronger than ever.
