A Guitar Hero’s Leap: Gus G.‘s ’Quantum Leap’ (KICP 4044/5)
Today’s entry spotlights the fourth solo album from the celebrated Greek guitar hero Gus G., best known for his work with Firewind and Ozzy Osbourne. We are looking at the 2021 Japanese pressing of “Quantum Leap,” released on the Metal Frontier label (King Records) with the catalog number KICP 4044/5. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.
Released on October 6, 2021, this double-disc set marked a significant first for Gus G.: it is his first-ever fully instrumental solo album. Showcasing his exceptional technical prowess and lyrical soloing, the album features tracks like “Into The Unknown,” “Exosphere,” and the title track. Gus G. handles all guitar, bass (on two tracks), and keyboards, backed by drummer Vincent Velazco and bassist/mixer Dennis Ward. A notable highlight is the track “Force Majeure,” which features a guest appearance by fellow guitar legend Vinnie Moore.
This Japanese edition is a deluxe package for fans, including a second disc titled “Live In Budapest 2018.” This bonus disc captures a powerful live performance featuring Gus G. on guitar and vocals, Dennis Ward on bass and vocals, and Johan Nunez on drums, tearing through tracks like “Fearless,” “Cold Sweat,” and “Money For Nothing.”
KICP 4044/5 is an essential release for guitar enthusiasts, offering a pure distillation of Gus G.’s instrumental talent on the first disc and a high-energy live experience on the second.
