We turn our attention to the third studio album from the British melodic power metal band DragonForce, titled “Inhuman Rampage.” This specific release is the 2005 Japanese pressing, issued by Victor Entertainment with the catalog number VICP-63220. This copy includes the original obi strip.
Defining themselves as “hypersonic heavy metal,” DragonForce pushed their sound to extreme limits on this record. Produced by guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman alongside keyboardist Vadim Pruzhanov, the album is a relentless assault of speed and melody. Li described this release as an evolution of the DragonForce sound, reaching a level of intensity they hadn’t achieved before.
The album features the band’s signature high-speed twin-guitar shredding, which became a global phenomenon, particularly with the opening track “Through The Fire And Flames.” Compared to their previous works, listeners often note a more prominent role for Pruzhanov’s keyboards and an increased use of blast beats from drummer Dave Mackintosh, pushing the tempo to near-inhuman levels while maintaining catchy, accessible melodies.
VICP-63220 is the definitive version for collectors. It includes the exclusive Japanese bonus track “Lost Souls In Endless Time,” bringing the total audio tracks to nine. Additionally, this is an enhanced CD that includes a “Dragonforce Backstage Rockumentary,” offering footage of the band on tour in Japan and Europe, along with a Windows theme package. It captures the band at the pivotal moment they exploded onto the worldwide stage.
