A Modern Guitar Hero’s Evolution: Gus G.‘s ’Brand New Revolution’ (KICP 1737)

Today’s entry spotlights the second solo studio album from the Greek guitar phenomenon Gus G., best known as the mastermind behind Firewind and for his high-profile tenure as Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist. We are looking at the 2015 Japanese pressing of “Brand New Revolution,” released on the Metal Frontier label (King Records) with the catalog number KICP 1737. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.

Released on July 22, 2015, this album showcases Gus G. further establishing his identity outside of his main band. While Firewind focuses on power metal, “Brand New Revolution” leans into a modern, melodic hard rock and heavy metal sound with catchy hooks and, of course, dazzling guitar work. The album features aggressive yet fluid playing, solidifying his status as a leading figure among the new generation of guitar heroes.

The album is defined by its “dream team” of guest vocalists. Jacob Bunton (Adler, Lynam) handles the bulk of the tracks, including the title cut. The legendary Jeff Scott Soto lends his voice to “Gone To Stay” and “Generation G,” while Mats Levén (Candlemass, Yngwie Malmsteen) brings his grit to tracks like “Come Hell Or High Water.” Additionally, Elize Ryd (Amaranthe) makes a memorable appearance on “What Lies Below.”

As is customary with King Records releases, this Japanese edition offers exclusive value to collectors. It includes a thirteenth track: an alternate version of “What Lies Below” featuring vocals by Heather Saint Marie. KICP 1737 is a high-octane release that captures a modern guitar hero at a creative peak, surrounding himself with top-tier talent to deliver a polished and powerful metal album.
