A Melodic Rock Dream Team: Revolution Saints’ Self-Titled Debut (KICP 1719)

Today’s entry spotlights the debut album from a project that melodic rock fans considered a dream come true: Revolution Saints. We are looking at the 2015 Japanese pressing, released on the Nexus label (King Records) with the catalog number KICP 1719. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.

Released on February 18, 2015, this album brought together a powerhouse trio of genre legends: Deen Castronovo (Journey, Bad English) on drums and lead vocals, Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees) on bass and vocals, and Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio) on guitar. Produced by Alessandro Del Vecchio, the project was designed to celebrate the classic 80s melodic hard rock sound.

The biggest revelation of this album was Deen Castronovo taking center stage as the lead vocalist. Known primarily as a world-class drummer, his vocal performance here is stunning, drawing immediate and favorable comparisons to the legendary Steve Perry, perfectly suiting the Journey-esque melodies of tracks like “Back On My Trail” and “Turn Back Time.” Doug Aldrich adds a harder, bluesier edge to the sound, creating a perfect fusion of AOR accessibility and hard rock grit.

The album also features guest appearances from Castronovo’s Journey bandmates, Neal Schon and Arnel Pineda.

This Japanese edition is the definitive version for collectors, pressed on high-fidelity SHM-CD. It is packed with exclusive content, featuring four bonus tracks: an acoustic version of “Don’t Walk Away,” alternate vocal versions of “You’re Not Alone” (sung by Arnel Pineda and Deen Castronovo respectively), and a Doug Aldrich version of “Way To The Sun.” KICP 1719 is a modern masterpiece of melodic rock, capturing three veterans delivering a passionate and high-quality album.
