A Towering Presence: Led Zeppelin’s ‘Presence’ Deluxe Edition (8122795573)
Today’s entry spotlights the 2015 Deluxe Edition of Led Zeppelin’s seventh studio album, “Presence.” This 2-CD set was released in Europe on the Swan Song label with the catalog number 8122795573.
Originally released in 1976, “Presence” is often regarded as the band’s guitar masterpiece. Recorded in Munich under difficult circumstances (with Robert Plant recovering from a serious car accident), the album is driven by the sheer force of Jimmy Page’s guitar work and the band’s tight, mature musicianship. From the epic, galloping opener “Achilles Last Stand” to the slow-burning blues of the closer “Tea For One,” it captures a raw and focused side of the band.
This Deluxe Edition, remastered and produced by Jimmy Page, offers a deep dive into the album’s creation.
Disc 1 features the original album, revitalized with a modern remaster.
Disc 2 contains the “Companion Audio,” a collection of reference mixes and works in progress.
While many of the companion tracks are rough mixes similar to the final versions, they offer fascinating nuances, such as the “Royal Orleans” reference mix which features a looser, almost spoken-word vocal delivery. The true gem for collectors, however, is the previously unreleased instrumental track “10 Ribs & All / Carrot Pod Pod (Pod).” This piano-led rock ballad offers a rare and distinct departure from the band’s usual heavy sound.
Housed in a tri-fold cardboard sleeve with a 16-page booklet, 8122795573 is an essential package for fans wanting to explore the “Object” of Led Zeppelin’s late-70s power in greater depth.
