The vaults of Blue Note Records are filled with legendary sessions, some released immediately, others waiting decades to see the light of day. Grant Green’s “Nigeria” belongs to the latter category, a powerhouse quartet date recorded in 1962 but not officially released until 1980 as part of the label’s LT series. We are looking at a Japanese CD reissue of this brilliant session, likely corresponding to the catalog number TOCJ-50284.
This album captures Grant Green in absolutely peak form, showcasing his incredibly pure, blues-drenched, and instantly recognizable guitar style. Leading a top-tier quartet, Green is joined by an absolute dream team rhythm section: the legendary Sonny Clark on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and the explosive Art Blakey on drums.
