A truly iconic 7-inch single that ignited the mainstream career of Japan’s demonic heavy metal band Seikima-II is the focus for this entry. We are looking at their very first “Small Scripture” (single), “Roh-Ningyoh No Yakata” (The Wax Doll’s Mansion).
Released on April 2, 1986, via the Fitzbeat label (CBS/Sony) with the catalog number 07SH 1753, this 45 RPM vinyl was a landmark release for the band. It was issued on the same day as their first full-length album, “The End Of The Century.”
The single features two foundational tracks:
A1: Roh-Ningyoh No Yakata (The Wax Doll’s Mansion)
B1: Jack The Ripper
The A-side, “Roh-Ningyoh No Yakata,” became the band’s massive breakthrough hit. Its powerful, driving heavy metal sound, combined with its dark, theatrical theme and Demon Kogure’s unmistakable vocals, propelled Seikima-II to new heights of popularity.
The B-side, “Jack The Ripper,” is also a classic track. Both songs were originally penned by the band’s founder, Damian Hamada, and arranged by the performing lineup. For vinyl collectors, this single was particularly essential, as “Jack The Ripper” was not included on the vinyl LP version of “The End Of The Century.”
07SH 1753 stands as one of the most important 7-inch singles in J-Metal history, capturing the band’s signature song that led their demonic conquest of the mainstream.
