A 7-inch single capturing Japanese hard rock band Bow Wow at the peak of their controversial pop-oriented phase is the focus for this entry. We are looking at their 1980 release, “Wasurekaketeta Love Song,” issued on SMS Records with the catalog number SM06-46.
This 45 RPM vinyl was a single-cut from their “Glorious Road” album, which saw the band move further into a mainstream “Kayōkyoku rock” (Japanese pop-rock) style.
The single features two tracks:
A: Wasurekaketeta Love Song (A Forgotten Love Song)
B: Love Me Tender o Utatte yo (Sing “Love Me Tender” For Me)
The A-side is a prime example of this pop-rock sound, though fans note that the hard rock guitar work still cuts through the polished arrangement. The B-side is described as a poignant acoustic ballad.
SM06-46 stands as a key document of Bow Wow’s brief but significant stylistic detour into the pop world, showcasing their melodic songwriting from this unique period before they returned to a heavier hard rock and metal sound.
