A key single from the peak international era of Japanese heavy metal legends Loudness is the focus for this entry. We are looking at “So Lonely,” released on November 28, 1987. This 7-inch, 45 RPM single was issued in Japan by Warner-Pioneer Corporation (under ATCO Records) with the catalog number P-2292.
This release holds a special place in the band’s discography as it was their 8th single and, notably, their first-ever ballad single, showcasing a different side of the band. The song was a single cut from their classic 1987 album, “Hurricane Eyes.”
The single features two tracks with different legendary producers:
A: So Lonely (Produced by Andy Johns)
B: Strike Of The Sword (Produced by Eddie Kramer)
The A-side, “So Lonely,” is the powerful English-language ballad version of their earlier Japanese classic, “Ares’ Lament” (アレスの嘆き). The B-side offers the driving, Kramer-produced heavy metal track “Strike Of The Sword,” also from the “Hurricane Eyes” sessions.
P-2292 stands as a significant release, capturing the band’s melodic power and high-quality production during their major international push.
