A key single from Show-Ya’s commercially successful mid-80s period is “Mizu no Naka no Tōbōsha” (Fugitive in the Water). This 7-inch, 45 RPM vinyl was released on May 25, 1987, via the Eastworld label (Toshiba EMI) with the catalog number WTP-17967.
This release, the band’s 5th single, is notable for continuing their collaboration with a powerhouse professional songwriting team. Both tracks feature lyrics by Yasushi Akimoto, music by Kyohei Tsutsumi, and arrangement by Makoto Matsushita.
The single features two tracks:
A: Mizu no Naka no Tōbōsha
B: Fermata
This single holds a unique place in the band’s history, as the A-side was used as the theme song for the TV Asahi detective drama “Daitokai 25-ji.” This marks the only time a Show-Ya song was ever used as a theme for a television drama. WTP-17967 captures the band’s polished, hard-rock sound, expertly packaged by top industry hitmakers for a mainstream audience.
