This 1989 release from Japan’s premier all-female hard rock band, Show-Ya, is one of their most iconic hit singles. We are looking at “Watashi Wa Arashi,” released on the Eastworld label (Toshiba EMI) with the catalog number RT07-2360, promo sample pressing with white labels.
Issued on June 7, 1989, this 7-inch, 45 RPM single served as the lead-in for their “Outerlimits” album. The A-side, “Watashi Wa Arashi,” is a signature Show-Ya anthem. Like their previous hit “Genkai LOVERS,” it’s a powerful heavy metal track that famously kicks off with an immediate, driving guitar riff from Miki Igarashi. The song gained widespread popularity from its use in a Showa Shell Oil commercial.
The B-side features another hard rock track, “Ai no Frustration.” As a 7-inch vinyl single released in 1989—at the height of Japan’s transition to the 8cm CD format—this record is also a sought-after rare item from that period. The release originally came with a lyric insert.
