A truly deep excavation into the Japanese rock underground brings us to the self-titled debut album from Ginbae (銀蝿). This 12-inch LP, released in 1976, is a “mega rare” private press (自主制作盤) issued on the independent Sea Side / Studio-3 labels with the catalog number A-0001.
It is essential to clarify that this is not the famous 1980s rock ‘n’ roll band Yokohama Ginbae. This Ginbae is a different, earlier twin-guitar hard rock band that emerged from the 1970s.
This 6-track album is a potent blend of heavy 70s styles, encompassing hard rock, heavy metal, acid rock, blues rock, and psychedelic rock. The tracklist, featuring titles like “Toluene,” “Ecstasy Band,” and the two-part “Sazanka Rock,” perfectly reflects this raw and adventurous sound, produced by Seiichi Kurahashi.
